U.S. star Alex Morgan gives birth to 1st child
Alex Morgan gave birth to a baby girl this week, announcing the arrival of her first child, Charlie Elena Carrasco, on Saturday.
The United States superstar and her husband, former MLS player Servando Carrasco, announced Morgan's pregnancy in October, saying at the time that the baby was due in April.
"She made us wait longer than expected, but I should have known she would do it her way and her way only," Morgan wrote on social media.
Morgan, who plays her club soccer for the Orlando Pride, had planned to return to the national team in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and she continued to train well into April.
With the coronavirus pandemic pushing the event back to 2021, the 30-year-old gets an extra year to prepare for the Olympic Games. The U.S. will be looking to capture a fifth gold medal in women's soccer.
