TFC postpone Orlando flight after unnamed person reports COVID-19 symptoms
Toronto FC have delayed Saturday's flight to Orlando after an unnamed member of the club's travel party complained of coronavirus symptoms.
The Canadian franchise announced Friday that it had moved its travel date back one day to Saturday "in order to complete pre-travel testing." However, TFC have now revealed they will not depart for the MLS is Back Tournament until they receive results from "another round of testing."
"This morning, a member of the Toronto FC travel party reported experiencing symptoms to the team medical staff," Toronto FC's news release explained. "The individual is isolating at home and is being assessed virtually by team medical staff."
Toronto FC's opening group-stage match is scheduled for next Friday against D.C. United.
FC Dallas and the Vancouver Whitecaps were set to begin their campaigns in a game scheduled for next Thursday. That meeting was postponed earlier on Saturday after six FC Dallas players tested positive for COVID-19 following their arrival in Florida last weekend.
There are also question marks over player participation during Major League Soccer's return-to-play tournament. Carlos Vela, the reigning MLS MVP, is reportedly leaning toward skipping the Orlando competition due to rules that prohibit family and friends from staying with players during the month-long event. The Los Angeles FC attacker's wife is pregnant.
