Buerki to leave Dortmund for MLS team St Louis City
Berlin, March 16, 2022 (AFP) - Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Buerki will leave to join MLS side St Louis City SC at the end of the season, the Bundesliga club confirmed Wednesday.
The 31-year-old has not made a first-team appearance this campaign and received permission to leave with a year left on his contract.
"It was an honour to be able to play for this awesome club for seven years," Buerki said in a statement.
"I will always remember not only the (German Cup final) wins in 2017 and 2021, but all the good and difficult times we experienced together."
Swiss 'keeper Buerki played 232 times for Dortmund, who he joined in 2015, but lost his place to Gregor Kobel and his last appearance was in May 2021.
He has signed a three-year contract with St Louis, where he will link up with their German sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
"We're delighted to have a top international goalkeeper like Roman joining," said Pfannenstiel. "His experience will be a huge benefit."
