Toronto FC sign defender Monlouis from Arsenal
Toronto FC completed the signing of defender Zane Monlouis from Arsenal, the Major League Soccer club announced Saturday.
The center-back joins Toronto on a two-year contract through the 2026 season. The deal includes options to extend his stay further until 2027 and 2028.
"At just 21 years old, he has already gained a variety of playing experience in the U.K.," Toronto FC general manager Jason Hernandez said.
"His skill set both on and off the ball will be an asset to our defense, and we look forward to his continued growth and integration with our first team."
Monlouis made over 100 combined appearances for Arsenal’s Under-18, Under-21, and Under-23 teams. He had a short loan spell with English third-tier club Reading last season.
"These years have been some of the best of my life," Monlouis said of his 13 years at Arsenal, according to Gunners youth reporter Jeorge Bird.
He added, "With saying that, I believe it is my time to move on, and I am excited for what the future holds for me."
