Volkswagen ends D.C United kit sponsorship
Volkswagen has ended their six year kit sponsor relationship with D.C United.
The iconic VW logo had featured on D.C United's jerseys since 2008.
“Volkswagen has realigned its strategic sports marketing objectives and moved out of team level sponsorships,” Scott Vazin, vice president of brand communications, told the Washington Post's Steven Goff.
Goff reports D.C United signed a five-year contract with Volkswagen valued at $14 million in 2008.
This time around United attempted to negotiate a more lucrative deal, but Volkswagen was not interested. Instead, the German car giants will continue their relationship with the club as a smaller sponsor while D.C looks for a new primary partner.
