Cameron Porter's first season in MLS is over almost as soon as it began.
The Montreal Impact confirmed that the rookie striker, 21, will undergo surgery next week to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, and will need approximately 9-12 months to recover.
Porter suffered the injury on Saturday in the opening half of Montreal's goalless draw against New England, in which he was making his second start since being selected 45th overall in the 2015 SuperDraft.
The striker had already become something of a cult hero in just a handful of matches with the club, scoring a dramatic late goal in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Pachuca to send the Canadian club through to the semifinals.
