Portland's Fanendo Adi named MLS Player of the Week
New York - Portland Timbers forward Fanendo Adi was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday for the 17th week of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.
Adi, 24, netted a brace with two goals in quick succession for the Timbers in a 4-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday night at Providence Park, recording his third brace of the season.
With the score tied 1-1 in the 74th minute, Adi hit a bending, one-time shot around Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei following a pinpoint pass from midfielder Darlington Nagbe for what would stand as the game-winning goal.
Less than two minutes later, Adi added a second goal with a powerful right- footed strike from the top of the box after a pass from midfielder Rodney Wallace.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
