VIDEO: Herculez Gomez helps Toronto FC clinch 1st-ever playoff berth
Entering Wednesday, Herculez Gomez had been limited to only 113 minutes of action since he joined Toronto FC in early August.
Patience pays off.
With Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore omitted from TFC's starting XI as they had just returned from international duty, Gomez was given only his second start for the club in its fixture versus the New York Red Bulls at BMO Field.
Knowing that one point was all TFC needed to secure its first-ever playoff berth, Gomez rose to the occasion in the 51st minute.
Curiously, it was in TFC's second year of existence that Gomez last found the back of the net in Major League Soccer.
First @MLS goal for Herculez Gomez in nearly 7 years (32 games), since Oct. 18, 2008 with the Wizards.

A true hero isn't measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.
