Ronaldinho mulls future MLS move amid influx of aged stars in 2015
When Ronaldinho takes to the field, no matter the occasion, it's easy to see the child-like love he has for the game of soccer. But whimsy alone won't keep the 35-year-old young forever as the Brazilian ponders a potential move to Major League Soccer.
Ronaldinho is currently out of contract after being released from Fluminense and is currently evaluating his options. He has been linked with a move to MLS for what seems like a lifetime, though, a possibility the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner isn't ruling out.
"It's a league that's growing, and the United States is a country I love," Ronaldinho said, according to MLSsoccer.
He says he's "working with sponsors and looking to the future," but then doubled down by saying, "who knows what can happen in the future." Despite the age of retirement looming closer each year, he isn't making any commitments to the league.
A number of soccer superstars in their 30s have now walked the path David Beckham paved by joining MLS teams, including Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Didier Drogba.
Ronaldinho says seeing those names "motivates every single player in the world to want to come here because everyone wants to be where the best players are," and was particularly swayed by his friend and Orlando City captain Kaka, who has been quite complimentary of MLS.
"When you hear this coming from one of the biggest names in soccer, it also gives you the desire to come here," he said.
If Ronaldinho is going to make a move to MLS, he can take solace knowing age is really just a number, though, a fact most of the aforementioned players can certainly attest to.
