Alvaro Saborio signs extension with D.C. United
Four goals in 15 games was enough to convince D.C. United to keep Alvaro Saborio, as the club announced a contract extension with the forward on Tuesday.
As per league policy, the length of the contract wasn't made public.
Saborio, a Costa Rican international, joined D.C. United after five seasons with Real Salt Lake. He was traded to D.C. in July, halfway through the 2015 season, with midfielder Luis Silva going the other way. Now, Saborio is set to stay at RFK Stadium.
"We are pleased to have reached an agreement to retain Sabo for the 2016 season," general manager Dave Kasper said. "He made an immediate impact when he joined us this summer and scored important goals down the stretch. We look forward to his continued contributions."
Saborio sits eighth in active MLS goal scorers, with 67 goals and 13 assists in 139 appearances over six seasons.
He also has 35 goals in 103 appearances for Costa Rica.
