LA Galaxy sign Emmanuel Boateng from Helsingborgs
The LA Galaxy have announced the signing of striker Emmanuel Boateng from Swedish club Helsingborgs IF, pending international clearance. The move marks the Ghanaian's return to California after spending his formative years at a boarding school in the state.
"Emmanuel is a talented, young, attacking player who will add valuable depth to our offense," said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena. "He will continue to develop as a player and we are excited to add him to our roster."
Boateng, 22, is a native of Accra, Ghana. He earned a scholarship in the United States at the age of 15, and played for local California sides Santa Barbara Soccer Club, and South Coast Strikers. In 2012, he won the award for the top high-school player in the U.S.
In 2013, he signed his first professional contract with Helsingborgs, who play in Sweden's top flight, where he scored four goals in 37 appearances.
