Philadelphia Union re-sign veteran midfielder Brian Carroll to new contract
The Philadelphia Union announced on Wednesday the club has re-signed free-agent midfielder Brian Carroll to a new contract, though term length was not disclosed.
Carroll, 34, became a free-agent at the end of the 2015 season but has signed a new contract with the club he has played with for the last five seasons.
"Brian's vast knowledge and experience in this game is an invaluable asset and we're thrilled he's decided to return to our club," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "As Brian has consistently shown throughout his career, his professional approach to the game is unmatched, a key factor for why he can still play at such a high level.
"We cannot think of a better leader to mentor some of our newer players, both on and off the field, for the upcoming season."

Carroll has made 344 league appearances during his 13-year career in MLS, scoring eight goals and 17 assists in that time. The defensive midfielder has logged an astounding 28,682 minutes of play and featured in 22 games last season for the Union.
