Baah joined HJK Helsinki in 2014 from Asante Kotoko, the Ghana Premier League club where his professional career kicked off. He went on to make 70 Veikkausliiga appearances for the Finnish side, during which time he tallied four goals and seven assists. He also made six appearances in the Champions League and another six appearances in the Europa League.
"Gideon has all the characteristics we were looking for in a central defender," said Ali Curtis, the Red Bulls' sporting director. "He fits our style of play extremely well and we are anxious to have him get started with our club."

Having sold Matt Miazga to Chelsea in January and with Damien Perrinelle continuing to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the Red Bulls were in desperate need of a centre-back.
