Toronto FC is honoring the history of soccer in the city.
The club revealed its new alternate kit on Tuesday, adding some blue details to its predominantly red and white look in an homage to former NASL sides Toronto Metros-Croatia and the Toronto Blizzard.

A brief statement on the Canadian club's website delves deeper into the inspiration for the look, while also attempting to alleviate concerns that the side may be shedding its identity as the Reds.
It reads: "The dominant red strip across the chest serves as a statement. The club will always be first and foremost, red. New this season, is the introduction of a subtle blue strip which, not only represents the city's flag, but also pays tribute to and celebrates the history of soccer in Toronto and the 40th Anniversary of its last professional soccer championship in 1976. This classy kit serves as a reminder that soccer runs deep within the fabric of our city."
Kurt Larson of the Toronto Sun reports that, in addition to road matches, the new white ensemble will feature at BMO Field on four occasions this season.
