Most overrated and underrated footballers named in MLS player poll
The proverbial gloves have officially been dropped.
ESPN FC conducted an anonymous poll of 123 professional footballers currently playing in Major League Soccer.
The results are in, with New York City FC midfielder Mix Diskerud topping the list of the league's most overrated players, followed by Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore. In total, 38 players were labeled overrated, including star footballers like Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, Steven Gerrard, Giovani Dos Santos, Michael Bradley, and Clint Dempsey.
On the other end of the spectrum, the underrated stars include: New York Red Bulls midfielders Sacha Kljestan and Dax McCarty, Portland Timbers duo Diego Chara and Darlington Nagbe, FC Dallas' Fabian Castillo and Kellyn Acosta, Whitecaps destroyer Matias Laba, and New England's Lee Nguyen and Chris Tierney.
While the group of polled players labeled Dos Santos and Gerrard overrated, they expressed a desire to play under LA Galaxy's Bruce Arena, who was voted the most popular head coach in the survey - 22 percent want to call the StubHub Center home field.
There's a correlation between the results and the footballers' 2015 salaries. It seems the league's anonymous bunch equates being overrated with being paid well.
Could these 123 players be a touch bitter, perhaps?
