Agent: Ronaldinho to choose between MLS and China
Ronaldinho is considering Major League Soccer and the Chinese Super League as a potential last stop for his decorated career, according to his brother and agent.
The 36-year-old is a free agent after severing ties with Brazilian club Fluminense in September. He made a token appearance for Barcelona SC in Ecuador, signing a short-term contract to participate in a February friendly.
He announced that month that he wouldn't retire from football, and now brother Roberto Assis has pegged America and China as the most probable of destinations.
"We have totally ruled out playing in Brazil," Assis told Brazil's UOL Esporte, as translated by ESPNFC. "The people have been advised that he could return to play for the second semester - that is within our plans. On the 28th (of March) I am going to China and Ronaldinho would be ready to play in the second semester."
China has proven an attractive and lucrative sporting haven for Brazilian footballers, some of them much younger than Ronaldinho. Ramires left Chelsea for Jiangsu Suning in January, and Alex Teixeira opted to join the same club for €50 million.
The Far East could theoretically offer Ronaldinho higher wages than MLS, which has a harder salary cap. The Chinese government could also see a marketing opportunity in Ronaldinho as it prepares to bid for the right to host the 2026 World Cup.
