MMA fighter Joao Carvalho dies after TKO loss

Mixed martial artist Joao Carvalho, 28, died Monday, two days after a third-round TKO stoppage loss against Charlie Ward in Dublin, Ireland, Total Extreme Fighting announced in a statement.
The Portuguese fighter was rushed to the hospital after the match and underwent emergency brain surgery before later succumbing to his injuries.
Total Extreme Fighting CEO Cesar Silva offered his condolences:
We extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Joao Carvalho's and his team-mates in Team Nobrega. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We'd also like to thank all sports fans for their concern and support. We will give whatever support we can to Joao's family.
