Michael Chiesa looked overwhelmed during the opening minutes of his UFC on FOX 19 preliminary fight against Beneil Dariush before taking control in the second round and eventually winning via rear-naked choke.
After the fight, Chiesa revealed why he wasn't at his best in the early going: he was trying his best not to soil his shorts.
The lightweight told Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com that he had to go No. 2 so badly that he tried to run to the bathroom before the fight, but wasn't permitted to leave the Octagon.
"We're talking like stage four, emergency, I'm about to blow a gasket. ... Before the fight started, I told (Joe Rogan), 'Something bad might happen,'" Chiesa said.
Chiesa ate some punches early in the first, but managed to slow things down and hold on (in all senses of the term) until the end of the round.
"(Dariush) started shooting on me and clinching, and I'm like, 'Perfect.' But I didn't want to squeeze him and try to take him down because I'm worried something might happen."
Chiesa said his urge to go disappeared at the start of the second round, allowing him to push forward and ultimately get the win.
"All bullshit aside - no pun intended - this was the best camp I ever had. ... I could (have won) a couple minutes into the fight. But, one little hiccup, it's all good."
