At just 19 years of age, atomweight Angela Lee has been touted as one of MMA's most promising prospects. On Saturday, she captured her first major title with a unanimous decision win over Mei Yamaguchi in a "Fight of the Year" candidate at ONE Championship 42 in Singapore.
For 25 minutes, Lee and Yamaguchi engaged in a heated grappling battle that included a lexicon of submission techniques. From guillotine chokes to D'arce chokes, armbars to kneebars, and from one breathless scramble to another, the two fighters did everything in their power to earn a tap out.
All three judges scored the fight for Lee. The Canadian becomes the first female ONE champion and one of the youngest titleholders in professional combat sports today.
