Bisping: 'I would definitely win' title fight against GSP
Michael Bisping is thinking outside of the box when it comes to figuring out who would be an ideal opponent for his first title defense.
There are a number of contenders in the middleweight division jockeying for a shot at "The Count," among them Chris Weidman, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, and the man that Bisping knocked at UFC 199 out to become champion, Luke Rockhold.
While they each have their strengths and weaknesses, Bisping isn't limiting himself to those options.
Appearing on "The MMA Hour" on Monday, Bisping became enthused when it was suggested that he use his new position to engineer a fight with retired martial arts legend Georges St-Pierre should he return to the UFC.
Bisping and "GSP" currently share the all-time record for UFC wins with 19 apiece.
"As you say, fighting Georges St-Pierre, the great Georges St-Pierre, and of course, for the title of 'Who has the most wins in UFC history,' that alone is a tagline, and great promotion," said Bisping, according to Zane Simon of Bloody Elbow. "Of course, the numbers would be fantastic with Georges St-Pierre, he's a proven draw. And at the end of the day, we're all trying to generate as much money as possible."
The fight wouldn't just be about bragging rights or bank accounts either. Bisping is in no hurry to lose the middleweight title after taking years to get his hands on it and he sees St-Pierre as a favorable matchup.
"I do want to defend the belt and I want to make as much money as I can in the process. So, I would certainly be open to sending Georges St-Pierre back to a movie set, because that would be a fight that I would definitely win," said Bisping.
"And if Georges St-Pierre is listening: Buddy, any time just be a man, sign on the dotted line, and your return will be short lived. But, whether it's Georges St-Pierre, Dan Henderson, Jacare Souza, whoever it is, please line them up and I will knock them down."
