Like a coiled python, once Gegard Mousasi decided to strike it was curtains for Thiago Santos.
It was a straight right from Mousasi that finished Santos in Round 1, putting a stop to the Brazilian's four-fight win streak.
Mousasi is now on a two-fight win streak of his own and has won four of his last five. Overall, it was the 30th first-round finish of Mousasi's MMA career.
After a brief feeling out process in their middleweight bout on the UFC 200 preliminary card Saturday, Mousasi sent Santos stumbling back to the cage with a combination of punches.
A dazed Santos could only hang on as Mousasi wrestled him down to the mat and looked for a choke. In complete control, Mousasi scored another takedown that led to a scrambling Santos eating the knockout punch as he tried to stand up.
Santos was stepping in on just three weeks of notice for the opportunity to fight a top-10 middleweight. Unfortunately for him, the gamble did not pay off.
