Cris Cyborg wants to face the best female fighters in the world, and she wants them to come to her.
Ever since Cyborg made a successful UFC debut this past May with a 91-second beatdown of Leslie Smith, the question has been what the promotion will do with her next. Cyborg is currently the 145-pound champion of Invicta FC, the UFC's sister promotion.
However, the UFC itself does not have a 145-pound division.
Smith was willing to meet Cyborg at a catchweight of 140 pounds, but Cyborg is done compromising. On Monday, she composed a Facebook post detailing her frustration with her current situation and her desire to see the UFC implement her weight class.
"I deserve my own division," Cyborg wrote. "These girls didn't want to fight me in my weight class and now fans want me to face them for no belt, or risk my health to chase theirs. This is not fair."
Cyborg is referring to challenges lobbed at her by former women's bantamweight champions Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Holly Holm, all of whom have expressed interest in a Cyborg fight though ideally at 135 pounds or at a catchweight.
Both scenarios are less than ideal for Cyborg, who already undergoes a massive cut to make the featherweight limit.
In the post, she points out that her rivals have all competed at 145 pounds before joining the UFC while also explaining that she doesn't believe the bantamweight division is any deeper than a potential featherweight division.
"Currently there is not one girl in the bantamweight division's top-10 to have fought their entire career at 135 and half of the girls ranked in the bantamweight top-10 are on a losing streak."
Cyborg does not currently have another fight booked for the UFC or Invicta.
