McGregor says he's spent $300,000 on UFC 202 camp
Conor McGregor said Tuesday that he's already logged over 400 rounds of sparring in preparation for his rematch with Nate Diaz.
If that number seems extraordinary, here's another one: 300,000
That's how many dollars McGregor guesses he's poured into his current training camp - which has spanned Dublin, Iceland, and Las Vegas - ahead of UFC 202 on Aug. 20.
"With gyms, cars, transport, flights, accommodations - I'd estimate we're talking a $300,000 camp here," McGregor told ESPN's Brett Okamoto. "This is a big, big expense - but what I make is big. So, in the bigger picture, it's rather small."
Over the past few months, McGregor has been providing regular updates on his training via social media, including flying in Olympic-level boxers and world class jiu-jitsu practitioners to help him avenge his March submission loss to Diaz.
McGregor and coach John Kavanagh have declined to gear the featherweight champion's training towards a specific opponent in the past, due to the fact that four of McGregor's eight UFC opponents have pulled out with injury. However, given how much is on the line against Diaz, they changed their approach.
"This is most certainly not another fight," McGregor said. "I have done things differently this fight. We have been going to war every single day in the gym in preparation for this. So, this is a war to me."
