After surgery on fractured skull, 'Cyborg' set on December return
A fractured skull is no match for Evangelista Santos' will to return to MMA.
"Cyborg" is eyeing a December return to Bellator after undergoing surgery to repair his skull in July. Santos suffered the injury in a brutal KO loss at the hands of Michael Page at Bellator 158 on July 16.
According to MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz, Santos plans to begin training next week, pending his doctor's approval, and aims to return at lightweight before year's end.
His medical bills were covered by Bellator.
"They were surprised ever since I arrived in the hospital with the exams. I recovered well and really fast. They were impressed, and they do think it’s possible for me to fight again. I won’t be the same way I was. I’m like a damaged car now, not a brand new car."
Santos holds a career record of 21-18, going 1-2 in the promotion. Twelve of his losses have come by knockout.
