Nate Diaz won't be suspended for using CBD oil at UFC 202 presser

Nate Diaz won't be shelved for publicly indulging in his famous proclivity minutes after his five-round war with Conor McGregor.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) will not suspend Diaz for using cannabidiol (CBD) oil via vape pen at the UFC 202 post-fight press conference. He's accepted a public warning as punishment instead, the agency announced Thursday.

Diaz's fight-night drug test came back clean, but USADA's definition of in-competition testing includes a six-hour post-test window - hence the investigation of the Stockton bad boy's use of the banned substance. He was not facing sanctions from the Nevada Athletic Commission, which presided over the event, since its fight-night testing protocol does not include the ensuing six hours.

The USADA decided Diaz mistakenly believed the in-competition window ended as soon as he provided post-fight samples.

A derivative of cannabis, CBD oil falls under USADA's list of "specified substances" by association. Had the UFC's anti-doping partner chosen to make an example of Diaz, they could have handed him as much as a one-year suspension.
