What will McGregor's big UFC 205 announcement be?

Joshua Dahl / USA TODAY Sports

Year five of the Conor McGregor show could be the most spectacular one yet.

If everything goes according to plan, by the end of 2016 McGregor will own two UFC championship belts, three of the most successful PPVs in company history, and a bank account fatter than most mixed martial artists could ever dream of having.

The current featherweight champion is set to challenge Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York City on Nov. 12 and he has vowed to deliver a post-fight announcement that will have the combat sports world at attention.

Trying to predict McGregor's next move is surely folly, but it doesn't hurt to ponder the possibilities that the UFC star is dangling in front of us.

McGregor Inc.

Two years ago, McGregor's team trademarked "McGregor Sports and Entertainment Limited." That led to speculation on how that company might play into the fighter's plans for world domination.

McGregor dismissed early rumors that the formation of his own company was the beginning of a schism with the UFC, but that was before he had further established himself as arguably the biggest draw in the business. Now it's conceivable that McGregor could use his immense fame to strike out on his own.

That move could start with the formal announcement of the "McGregor Inc." brand in November.

What could the purpose of this brand be? Perhaps it's the athlete management arm of McGregor Sports and Entertainment, an outlet that can be used to bring exposure to his teammates who are in the UFC. That list includes "Ultimate Fighter" alumni Artem Lobov and Aisling Daly, and the newly signed Charlie Ward.

A more fanciful possibility would see McGregor finally form his own promotion. UFC fighters obviously cannot compete for other organizations while they are under contract, but their involvement with smaller, regional companies is permitted.

McGregor could be laying the groundwork for a promotion in Ireland, one where he will hold all the cards when his time with the UFC is done. It's a long shot, but when you look at the meteoric rise of McGregor over the past few years its impossible to rule out any of his machinations.

Going for the trifecta

When McGregor fights Alvarez, it will mark the third division that he's competed in since joining the UFC in 2013. He'll make history if he can hold two title belts at once, but why stop there?

The welterweight title is also on the line at UFC 205, and as long as everyone stays healthy, there's no reason why the winner of Tyron Woodley-Stephen Thompson couldn't be lined up for McGregor next.

McGregor has already moved up to 170 pounds for a pair of fights with Nate Diaz, so he's shown that welterweight is a possibility. And even though he'd have to deal with a significant size disadvantage against either Woodley or Thompson (Diaz is a career lightweight), it's easy to picture McGregor jumping at the chance to become the first fighter to hold UFC gold in three different weight classes.

Is 'Little Mac' on the way?

On a far more tabloid-y note, there have been rumblings on the internet that McGregor is about to welcome a "Little Mac" into the world and start a family.

Of course, the most prominent media figure to posit the news is Terez Owens so such rumors must be taken with a dumpster of salt, but even given that dubious source it would suit McGregor's theatrical personality to announce the coming of his progeny in front of a packed house at Madison Square Garden.

McGregor's girlfriend Dee Devlin has become a celebrity in her own right, especially back home in Ireland, and she's shown that she can handle the spotlight that comes from being the champ's better half.

As for how this pertains to fight fans, McGregor could choose to take an extended amount of time off from the UFC to focus on raising the next "Notorious." And if that's the case, he'll relish conquering the sport all over again whenever he returns.
