Ayala buries Kharitonov in 16 seconds with massive KO punch

Javy Ayala opened up the main card of Bellator 163 with one of the year's most vicious knockouts.

The 28-year-old heavyweight needed just 16 seconds to land a sledgehammer overhand right that left the massively favored Sergei Kharitonov stiff on the mat. It was Kharitonov's first loss since Sept. 10, 2011 - the same year Ayala made his MMA debut.

Ayala brought a modest 9-5 record into Friday's fight, while the seasoned Kharitonov owned a 23-5 record, with wins over former UFC champions Fabricio Werdum and Andrei Arlovksi, and Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem.
