Report: Nick Diaz permitted to fight again after reaching agreement with NAC
Stockton's favorite big brother is back in business.
Nick Diaz, the elder sibling of fellow UFC fighter Nate Diaz, has reportedly reached an agreement with the Nevada Athletic Commission to resolve a drug suspension that has kept him sidelined since January 2015, according to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, citing sources.
Exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Diaz initially received a five-year suspension last September after a post-fight drug test revealed the presence of marijuana metabolites. He successfully appealed the suspension in January 2016, reducing it to 18 months and the original fine of $165,000 to $100,000.
As of this past September, Diaz still owed $75,000 to the commission. A deadline of Dec. 1, 2016 was set for the payment.
Whether Diaz ended up paying the full amount or some other arrangement was made is unknown, but regardless, the 33-year-old welterweight is now clear to both compete and corner fighters. He was noticeably absent from Nate's two bouts with Conor McGregor earlier this year, both of which took place in Las Vegas.
Diaz has not fought since dropping a unanimous decision to Anderson Silva on Jan. 31, 2015. That result was overturned into a no-contest when banned substances were found in Silva's pre-fight test sample. Diaz has not won a fight since defeating BJ Penn at UFC 137 five years ago.
