Meek scores decision over Mein in UFC debut
Emil Meek opened his UFC debut with a bang.
The welterweight newcomer spoiled Jordan Mein's first fight in nearly two years by unanimous decision at UFC 206 in Toronto on Saturday. After a wild first round, Meek kept Mein pinned to the canvas for the better part of the latter two frames to take all three scorecards by a 29-28 tally - his first decision win in 12 pro fights.
"Valhalla" came out swinging in Round 1, boldly marching through Mein's strikes to land some leather of his own. The Alberta native landed three takedowns in the frame, only for Meek to make it back to his feet each time and resume his headhunting ways.

Mein gladly obliged Meek on the feet, primarily with counters, as his attempts to draw first blood were met with a furious combination that sent him reeling in the frame's final minute. The 27-year-old's initiative would end there.

The ensuing proceedings would be far more lopsided, as Meek walked Mein down before promptly putting him on his back in Round 2. The Norwegian opted to angle for an arm-triangle choke as opposed to scoring points with ground-and-pound, although he did secure the round by peppering Mein's head with strikes in its waning moments.
The final frame produced more of the same, with Valhalla taking Mein to the canvas in short order once again. Meek neutralized Mein from top position for the remainder of the fight, save for a last-ditch submission attempt from the Canadian.

Mein, who'd stepped away from the sport after suffering a second-round knockout loss at the hands of Thiago Alves in January 2015, drops to 3-3 in the UFC.
