Demetrious Johnson has caught a lucky break - sort of.
A recent MRI revealed the UFC flyweight champ has torn the popliteus muscle in his knee, but the injury won't require surgery, MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani reports. Johnson expects to have recovered within three-to-five weeks.
"Mighty Mouse" sustained the injury in the first round of his title defense against Tim Elliott at The Ultimate Fighter 24 finale earlier this month. Johnson mistakenly feared he had torn his LCL, and resorted to a wrestling and control-reliant attack to win by unanimous decision.
Once back to full health, Johnson hopes to tie Anderson Silva's record of 10 successful title defenses in April or May, preferably in Las Vegas.
