Reneau disagrees with draw vs. Correia: 'I edged her out'

Marion Reneau made history at UFC Fight Night 106, but it wasn't an achievement she was looking for.

"The Belizean Bruiser" and opponent Bethe Correia fought to the first draw between two female fighters in UFC history on Saturday, a result that left a bitter taste in Reneau's mouth afterwards. She came close to finishing Correia with ground-and-pound in Round 3, but only after falling behind in the previous frames on two of the three judges' scorecards.

While Reneau's big finish saved her from a loss, she later told reporters that she thought she did enough to win a decision outright.

"I believe she won the first round; maybe she might've edged me out a little bit," Reneau said, according to Dann Stupp and Fernanda Prates of MMAjunkie. "I think I definitely won the second - and for sure I won the third round.

"I don't accept the draw. I don't accept it. … I probably should have been more aggressive the second round, but I do believe I edged her out."

The win would have been Reneau's second straight and her fourth overall in the UFC. It also would have given her a significant victory over a former women's bantamweight title challenger.

Instead, she can only dwell on how things could have gone differently.

"I started off slow," Reneau said. "I should have started off a little bit faster, and initially, that's just the way I start off my fights typically. I need to pull my head out of my butt and start off a little bit faster."
