Mitch Clarke retires following loss at UFC 215

Mitch Clarke is going out on his shield.

After injuring his left hand and taking an ungodly amount of punishment at Alex White's hands in a second-round TKO loss at UFC 215 in Edmonton, Alberta, on Saturday, the lightweight emotionally announced he was hanging up his gloves for good.

In the classiest of farewells, the 31-year-old stated he'd repeatedly willed himself to fight beyond what he'd deemed his body capable of during his 16-fight career, but was happy to leave it all in the Octagon at Rogers Place in his adopted hometown.

The gritty Clarke made his Octagon debut opposite John Cholish at UFC 140, and while he never quite cemented himself as a contender in the UFC, he picked up a decision victory over John Maguire and choked out Al Iaquinta during his seven-fight stint in the promotion.

The Saskatchewan native retires with a professional record of 11-5 and a UFC slate of 2-5.
