Covington threatens to 'destroy' wrong person on Twitter
Social media can be a great tool for fighters to drum up interest in their matches. That said, if you're using Twitter, please make sure you tag the right person.
UFC welterweight Colby Covington may have been a bit too excited to call out upcoming opponent Dong Hyun Kim on Tuesday, tagging unrelated Twitter user Dong-Su Kim by accident:
Watch me destroy @dongkim June 17th live from Kallang, Singapore only on @UFCFightPass . https://t.co/CNBZuL1geR
— Colby Covington (@ColbyCovMMA) May 17, 2017
The other Kim - an investor based out of San Jose, according to his profile, and NOT an international cage fighter - responded in humorous fashion:
@ColbyCovMMA @UFCFightPass I really don't think it is a good idea for me to fight this guy.
— Dong-Su Kim (@dongkim) May 17, 2017
Covington appeared to see the humor in the situation as well, as he later retweeted Kim's response.
The UFC's Kim doesn't appear to have an English Twitter account.
Time will tell if Dong-Su joins "Jon Jones" and "Daniel Cormier" among the normal folks who have learned to accept random insults and challenges from internet strangers because they share Twitter handles with famous fighters.
