NSAC approves Aug. 26 for possible Mayweather-McGregor fight
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has put its stamp of approval on Floyd Mayweather's meeting with Conor McGregor.
The NSAC has approved Mayweather Promotions' request to hold a boxing event - presumably for the boxer's long-discussed dance with the UFC lightweight champion - on Aug. 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, chairman Anthony Marnell told ESPN's Brett Okamoto on Wednesday.
The pugilist's camp had reportedly verbally retracted the request on Tuesday, although Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions later asked the commission to put the target date back on the docket for Wednesday's meeting, according to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times.
Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena had previously been attached to the megafight, but while it seats 4,000 more than the MGM Grand, Mayweather Promotions opted for the latter venue to have a greater say in ticket prices, Pugmire reports.
The blockbuster crossover bout's progress has been difficult to gauge, as a bevy of parties are involved in bringing it to fruition, including the UFC, its new owners WME-IMG, Mayweather Promotions, and Showtime Sports. But the Nevada Commission's involvement bodes well for the matchup's evolution from a clash of egos to one of fists.
