White: Mayweather-McGregor to fight at 154 pounds at T-Mobile Arena

In a Wednesday appearance on ESPN's "Sportscenter," UFC president Dana White revealed Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will square off at 154 pounds with 10-ounce gloves in a 12-round boxing match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Aug 26.

Mayweather Promotions' request to hold a boxing card at MGM Grand Garden Arena on the aforementioned date was approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission Wednesday afternoon, although Mayweather didn't confirm where the event will be housed when he made the fight official on Instagram.

The fight's agreed-upon weight makes it a light-middleweight bout (by boxing standards), one of four divisions Mayweather has held titles in. McGregor, on the other hand, has fought at 145 pounds for nearly the entirety of his UFC stint, save for a pair of lucrative dates with Nate Diaz and one with Eddie Alvarez contested at 170 and 155 pounds, respectively.

Reports cited a greater say in dictating ticket prices for Mayweather Promotions' preference for the MGM Grand, although T-Mobile Arena seats several thousand more. The BIG 3 championships are currently booked at the latter venue on Aug. 26, but White did not provide further details.

The fight gets confirmed just over 70 days out, and while the involved parties had previously targeted Sept. 16, the earlier date may work out in the UFC's favor. According to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, the promotion is hoping "The Notorious" will compete on its last pay-per-view of 2017.

Mayweather (49-0) will end a retirement dating back to September 2015 with the blockbuster bout, while McGregor will be making his pro boxing debut. The pay-per-view will be distributed by Showtime, with Mayweather Promotions tasked with building an undercard comprised solely of boxing matches.
