GSP still gunning for Bisping
Georges St-Pierre has a score to settle.
The former UFC welterweight king is nursing an eye injury that's kept him from ending a lengthy layoff against middleweight champ Michael Bisping, but he still hopes the blockbuster will come to fruition once he's cleared to return in November.
"My eyes are on Bisping," St-Pierre told Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press on Thursday.
St-Pierre added, "Plus he's been very cocky. He's said a lot of things about me."
UFC president Dana White pulled the plug on the bout in May after injuries to both GSP and Bisping put the kibosh on a targeted July date. In a Thursday interview with TSN's Aaron Bronsteter, St-Pierre indicated he's since spoken with White, and while the UFC boss didn't give a definitive answer about whether he'll take another stab at the booking, the 36-year-old remains convinced he and Bisping will eventually square off.
Having set just about every UFC welterweight record before going on hiatus in November 2013, St-Pierre has set his sights on legacy fights in his return to competition, and believes a date with Bisping fits the bill. GSP acknowledged the risk of facing "The Count" while speaking to both Davidson and Bronsteter, but expects the reward will be just as great.
"I take a big risk. I can lose big but I can win big," St-Pierre told Davidson. "And I will win big."
Bisping appears to have other plans, as he expects to face the winner of an interim title bout between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker to unify the middleweight championship before calling it a career with one last fight in his native England.
