Martin Nguyen earned himself some closure and ONE Championship gold in devastating fashion Friday.
"The Situ-Asian" countered a low kick with a monstrous, perfectly timed overhand right that floored Marat Gafurov before pouncing with follow-up punches for the stoppage and the promotion's featherweight crown at the 1:27 mark of Round 2 at ONE Championship 59 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Nguyen not only captured the 145-pound strap with the knockout, but avenged the sole loss of his 10-fight career, a second-round submission suffered at Gafurov's hands in September 2015.
The 28-year-old has now won five straight and has yet to hear the final horn as a pro, while Gafurov tastes defeat for the first time in 16 career contests.
