Hamilton vs. Wieczorek moved from UFC Gdansk to Sydney show
UFC Fight Night 118 has undergone a last-minute change.
A heavyweight bout between Anthony Hamilton and newcomer Adam Wieczorek has been moved from Saturday's card in Gdansk, Poland to UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney, scheduled for Nov. 18 at Qudos Bank Arena. The promotion announced the development on Friday, but did not detail the reasons for the change.
The pair successfully tipped the scales at Friday's official weigh-ins, but were kept from participating in the ceremonial ritual later that afternoon due to the presence of rowdy supporters of local soccer team Lechia Gdansk, MMAjunkie's John Morgan reports. Wieczorek - a supporter of rival club Ruch Chorzow - and Hamilton didn't square off on stage as a precautionary measure, although UFC officials had reportedly maintained their bout would proceed as scheduled.
Hamilton will now look to snap a three-fight stoppage skid next month, with Wieczorek seeking his eighth-straight victory in his promotional debut. The November bill will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between former champ Fabricio Werdum and Marcin Tybura - former foe of Wieczorek's.
