Cutelaba's UFC 217 bout scrapped due to potential USADA violation

Simon Watts / USA TODAY Sports

Saturday's UFC 217 has lost one of its preliminary bouts at the 11th hour.

Light heavyweight Ion Cutelaba's date with newcomer Michal Oleksiejczuk has been scrapped due to the former's potential violation of the USADA's anti-doping policy, the promotion announced Friday.

The nature of the potential violation was not specified. The investigation is based on "voluntary disclosures" Cutelaba made when out-of-competition samples were collected Oct. 18 and 19.

The late development comes mere hours after both fighters made the divisional limit during the morning's weigh-ins. Cutelaba was to vie for his second straight victory in the Octagon after dispatching Henrique da Silva in seconds this past June, Oleksiejczuk for his 10th in what would have marked his UFC debut.

Saturday's bill will now proceed with 11 bouts.
