And the hits just keep on coming for UFC Fight Night 125.
What was billed as the penultimate bout of Saturday's bill in Belem, Brazil has now been scrapped after John Dodson's opponent Pedro Munhoz missed the bantamweight limit by four pounds at Friday's weigh-ins, the promotion announced following a report from MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz.
A women's flyweight tilt between Valentina Shevchenko and newcomer Priscila Cachoeira will serve as the card's new co-headliner.
Both Munhoz and Michel Prazeres missed weight after their hotel ran out of the hot water needed to complete their weight cuts overnight, Cruz reports.
Munhoz tipped the scales at 140 pounds, but Dodson - a converted flyweight - ultimately chose not to proceed with the matchup at a catchweight. The Sao Paulo native was fined 20 percent of his fight purse for the egregious transgression, the entirety of which went to Dodson, the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission told Cruz.
Speaking with MMAWeekly's Damon Martin following the debacle, Dodson explained he'd entertained remaining on the bill before finding out Munhoz's weight exceeded 140 pounds. The last time he fought an opponent who came in overweight, the 33-year-old dropped a split decision to John Lineker at UFC Fight Night 96. He wasn't too high on running the risk of falling to a heavy dance partner once more - on the last fight of his contract, no less.
"I did that with (John) Lineker. Lineker came in over weight and I was being a good company man, I'm just going to go ahead and fight him, do what I have to do, and just be excited about being the main event. Lineker came over heavy, I clearly outstruck the man, but I came away with a loss and I got screwed, so I wasn't rolling the dice on that for a second time."
Officials have since told MMAjunkie that Dodson - who made weight without incident - won't be paid his show money for his trouble. His management has since told Martin the matchup might be rebooked for next month's UFC 222 in Las Vegas.
Prazeres tipped the scales at five pounds above the lightweight limit for his date with Desmond Green - his third miss in his past four fights - but his bout will go down at a 161-pound catchweight, with Prazeres forfeiting 20 percent of his purse and another 20 should he get his hand raised.
Eryk Anders also needed an extra hour to make the middleweight limit for the evening's headliner opposite Lyoto Machida.
