Carls John de Tomas handed 1-year USADA-sanctioned ban
UFC alum Carls John de Tomas has accepted a one-year, USADA-sanctioned suspension after failing an in-competition drug test taken on Dec. 8, the anti-doping agency announced Monday.
He tested positive for banned diuretic furosemide, with the ensuing suspension retroactive to Dec. 29 - the day he was flagged. According to MMAjunkie's Steven Marrocco, De Tomas was released by the UFC soon after he'd failed the test.
De Tomas' sample was collected a day prior to his bantamweight bout with Alex Perez at UFC Fight Night 123 in Fresno, where he lost by second-round submission. The California State Athletic Commission - the event's sanctioning body - has also suspended him for one year and fined him $2,500.
The 21-year-old is winless in two fights under the UFC banner.
