Romero, Rockhold, 5 others facing 6-month medical bans after UFC 221
Three of UFC 221's four headliners could be out of commission for a while.
Yoel Romero, Luke Rockhold, and Curtis Blaydes are facing six-month medical suspensions following their bouts at last Saturday's card in Perth, Australia, according to records The Underground obtained from the Western Australia Combat Sports Commission.
The 40-year-old Romero feared he'd broken his leg before knocking Rockhold out in the third round of the main event, but emerged with only a deep bruise in his shin. He can return to action with the blessing of an orthopedist, while Rockhold will need dental clearance to avoid the six-month shelving.
Blaydes will also require clearance from an orthopedist after wrestling his way to a unanimous decision over Mark Hunt in the co-headliner. Lightweight "Maestro" Dong Hyun Kim, middleweight Rob Wilkinson, bantamweight Jose Quinonez, and welterweight Luke Jumeau have all been hit with six-month medical bans as well.
