Wonderboy vs. Till official for UFC Liverpool headliner
Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and Darren Till will square off in the welterweight main event of UFC Fight Night 130 on May 27 at Echo Arena in Till's native Liverpool, the promotion confirmed Thursday.
Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com was the first to report the bout.
Thompson fought reigning champion Tyron Woodley to a majority draw and lost a tepid majority decision to him at UFC 205 and 209, respectively, but got back in the win column with a one-sided verdict over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 in November. The decision improved his promotional record to 9-2-1.
The Scouser sees his repeated callouts of the karateka answered after he was announced as one half of the bill's headliner earlier this month. Till is undefeated as a pro and 4-0-1 in the Octagon, most recently submitting a breakthrough effort in a first-round TKO of Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 118 in October.
Also confirmed for the bill was a featherweight tilt between British prospect Arnold Allen and Denmark's Mads Burnell. Allen, 24, last improved to 3-0 in the Octagon with a split decision over Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Night 107 a year ago, while Burnell most recently rebounded from a short-notice tapout loss to Michel Prazeres with a win over Mike Santiago on points at UFC Fight Night 124 in January.
