Matt Serra to be inducted into UFC Hall of Fame
The UFC announced Saturday night that former welterweight champion and "The Ultimate Fighter" winner Matt Serra will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame's Pioneer wing in July.
Serra made UFC history in 2007 when he won the welterweight title by handing Georges St-Pierre his first knockout loss. Though he lost the belt to St-Pierre in their following bout, the win is considered one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
The New York native also won "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 4 by defeating Chris Lytle in the finale, earning himself the title shot against St-Pierre.
Serra last fought in September 2010, losing to Lytle by unanimous decision and ending his MMA career with an 11-7 record. He now runs two Brazilian jiu-jitsu schools in New York and trains several UFC fighters with his partner Ray Longo.
