Till misses weight ahead of UFC Liverpool main event

Per Haljestam / USA TODAY Sports

Darren Till failed to make weight Saturday ahead of UFC Liverpool, tipping the scales 3.5 pounds above the 171-pound limit.

UFC officials gave him an extra hour to shed the excess weight because of a family emergency, according to Jim Edwards of MMA NYTT, but it made no difference. Till is still scheduled to meet Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in the main event of his hometown card, but with a few stipulations.

Thompson, the UFC's No. 1 welterweight contender, is determined to get in the Octagon on Sunday, even after watching Till badly miss weight.

"I came here for a fight and I won't let the fans down," he told Edwards.

On the undercard, fellow Brit Molly McCann also missed weight. Her manager told Simon Head that her bout with Gillian Robertson will go on as planned if she meets a weight restriction Sunday at the arena.
