Poirier calls out Khabib after defeating Alvarez

No sooner had Dustin Poirier emerged victorious from a hotly anticipated rematch with Eddie Alvarez than he turned his focus to finding his next opponent.

Poirier made it clear that he wants a fight with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after his second-round TKO of Alvarez on Saturday at UFC Calgary.

"Where you at, Khabib?" Poirier said in the Octagon, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

Poirier hasn't lost since squaring off against Michael Johnson in September 2016. He listed his recent slate of victories over quality opponents as the reason he's due to take on Nurmagomedov, who sports a 26-0 record and won the belt at UFC 223 in April.

"Just look at my track record," Poirier said. "Eddie Alvarez, former champ. Anthony Pettis, former champ. Justin Gaethje, former champ. Eddie Alvarez, former champ. That’s four champions in a row. What else do I have to do?"

Poirier and Alvarez previously squared off at UFC 211 in May 2017. The fight was ruled a no-contest when Alvarez delivered an illegal knee to Poirier's head.

After Saturday's fight, Poirier fired back at Alvarez for his comments about their first meeting.

"He said I quit,” Poirier said, according to Dave Doyle of MMAFighting.com. "I'll die in here first. This is what I do. I'm living this every day and I'll never quit."
