Ferguson earns win after Pettis ruled out of bloodbath fight with broken hand
Tony Ferguson defeated Anthony Pettis via TKO in Saturday's UFC 229 co-main event in Las Vegas.
The fight was brought to a premature conclusion before the third round after Pettis wasn't able to continue due to a broken hand.
Ferguson, returning from a lengthy layoff due to knee surgery, was the aggressor in the opening round, using his unpredictable style to dictate the pace and keep Pettis on his back foot.
The former UFC interim lightweight champion survived an onslaught to open the second. As the two grappled on the mat, blood covered both fighters, and the bout was momentarily halted to tend to a cut on Pettis' head.
Ferguson and Pettis went to war for the rest of the round, trading shot after shot.
With the win, Ferguson extended his lightweight record win streak to 11 fights.
