Jessica Andrade shocked Rose Namajunas with a second-round slam knockout in the UFC 237 main event Saturday to capture the strawweight championship in her native Brazil.
Namajunas dominated the opening round and maintained her edge early in the second. Andrade, though, was aggressive throughout the fight, and finally managed to drop Namajunas on her head.
"Thug Rose" successfully defended the belt once, defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk more than a year ago.
After accepting her defeat, Namajunas said relinquishing the belt gave her a sense of relief.
Andrade has now won four straight fights. It remains to be seen who'll emerge from the deep strawweight division as the No. 1 contender for her first championship defense.
