UFC releases Elias Theodorou
The UFC released Canadian middleweight Elias Theodorou and two others Sunday, as first reported by Combate's Raphael Marinho and confirmed by a UFC official to TSN's Aaron Bronsteter.
The move comes after Theodorou was featured in a middleweight clash with Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night in Ottawa on May 4. The Toronto native lost the bout by unanimous decision and was booed by the hometown crowd for his performance.
Theodorou spent much of the fight running away from Brunson and made a point to apologize afterward to fans and detractors who criticized him on Twitter for his fighting style.
Prior to the loss, the 30-year-old was riding a three-fight win streak, all via decision. He now sports a 16-3 record and was 8-3 in the UFC.
The promotion also reportedly let go of flyweight Wilson Reis and heavyweight Marcelo Golm, according to Marinho.
