Report: Nurmagomedov signs new UFC contract that includes GSP clause

Khabib Nurmagomedov has a new contract with the UFC, his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.

The multi-fight deal includes a clause in the event Nurmagomedov ever ends up facing former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre. Though terms of the contract were not disclosed, MMAJunkie reports the inclusion of a St-Pierre clause likely means financial terms for a fight could be renegotiated should it ever take place.

Nurmagomedov (27-0) called out St-Pierre when he captured the vacant lightweight title with a victory over Al Iaquinta at UFC 223. But UFC president Dana White shot down the potential matchup and the Russian AKA standout ended up fighting Conor McGregor at UFC 229 instead.

St-Pierre (26-2) officially retired from MMA in February after failing to secure a matchup against Nurmagomedov. The 38-year-old last defeated Michael Bisping at UFC 217 in November 2017 to win the middleweight title. Shortly after winning his second UFC title, "GSP" vacated the 185-pound strap. Robert Whittaker defeated Yoel Romero by unanimous decision at UFC 213 in July 2018 to win the vacant title.

In the meantime, Nurmagomedov is scheduled to headline UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi on Sept. 7 in a title unification bout against interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.
